I usually instruct my clients to leave on underwear, but remove everything else, including any other undergarments or jewelry. The client is always covered securely by the sheet and blanket while areas are individually uncovered to be massaged.
It is best to be able to work each muscle from end to end and sometimes, such as working the hamstrings or quads, boxers can get in the way of effective treatment. To be safe, leave the stylish boxers at home and stick with briefs for the massage.
I actually don’t use an oil. The product I use on my clients is 100% pure organic jojoba seed extract. Jojoba is actually wax-based, so it does not go rancid or cause terrible staining that oils can. It is very healthy for skin and hair, being loaded with all three types of vitamin E to help fight free radicals. Jojoba will not break down easily in heat and other factors as do other plant-based oils and products, so it is a much healthier conditioner for the skin and hair. I may also use a natural, fast-absorbing lotion.
Talking or not talking is completely up to the client. I love to chat with people and I also love to allow clients to de-stress and be silent. It is important that clients relax and take deep, cleansing breaths during the massage. Some fall asleep. Some people find that talking about things helps relax them, while others have difficulty relaxing or keeping their hands restful if they are talking. Muscles respond best when clients are restful. I will periodically check throughout the massage to make sure the pressure is okay and I ask that clients keep me informed of any discomforts or requests about pressure. Bottom line: It’s YOUR time, so you decide how best to enjoy it!
Massage is a service. When we receive good service, such as by our hair stylist or waiter, we generally provide a tip as a show of appreciation. Massage is a very physically demanding career and therapists are limited by the number of hours of massage they can provide in a day. Overhead costs are high and I would like to keep my prices at a reasonable level. If you feel that you have received great service, I would be very appreciative of the gesture of a tip.
I do not work with insurance companies or do any billing. I require that I be paid at the time of the service and I can write a receipt for you to turn in to your health insurance provider or accident claim if you wish to be reimbursed.
I accept payments via cash, check, credit, or debit card. I do not keep a large amount of change available in the office, so please keep this in mind when making cash payments to ensure that I can make change for you.
